Sweet Orange & Caramel
About: Sweet orange, soft caramel, a smooth and clean finish. A washed lot from Finca Esperanza, a woman-run, fully organic farm tucked into one of Guatemala's lesser-known coffee regions.
The Story: Finca Esperanza sits in a quiet, lesser-known corner of Guatemala, where Ana Vizcaíno carries on a coffee legacy that began when her great-grandmother bought her first piece of land. When she took over the farm in 2009, she set out to grow coffee using only organic and sustainable practices, spending six years transforming a conventional farm into a certified organic one. That means less than half of its 225 acres planted with coffee and the rest left wild as a natural reserve, cherry dried slowly on raised beds in the farm's own solar house, and the kind of careful work you can taste in the cup. A woman-run, fully organic lot from a region most people have never heard of, which is exactly why it caught our attention.
